Walking On The Moon – A Tribute To Armstrong

Moon Walking

Childhood is a glorious state of delusion.  When the father woke them up that 1969 night,  he instructed them to sit in front of the Television set in the living room.   In their PJ´s the kids wanted to go back to sleep.   ¨You must stay awake and watch, and someday you will thank me …¨Said the father.    There was a man walking on the moon, it was Neil Armstrong.

The news took a while to sink in.  It was the age of childhood innocence where everything was possible.  They could not understand what the big deal was with a man walking on the moon.  How come this was the first time ever? After all in their minds they walked on the moon all the time and even ate tiny pieces of it.

It tasted like Cheddar, a bit like Velveeta, Macaroni & Cheese and the comfort of Mom.    The same moon that every night moved when they moved.

Sometimes they would grow impatient with it.  ¨Why does it always have to follow us everywhere we go?¨   They wondered.  The moon was worse than the Nanny; always around with no way to escape it.

Eventually during that same week they got to understand it was indeed a BIG,  HUGE, enormous thing.   The moon did not really follow them, it was not made of cheese and Neil Armstrong had actually walked that walk before returning to earth.  No you really could not go there only by wishing it.   It required an enormous feat of will and achieving the impossible.

After that nothing was ever the same.
